Welcome to our wonderful teaching programme! You are sure to find something here to inspire you. Keep looking as we continue to upload the class pictures!
One day workshops are from 10am until 4pm unless otherwise stated. Bookings must be made in advance and accompanied by the full payment.
A refund can only be given if 4 weeks notice of cancellation is received ( less £5 administration costs)

We welcome BEGINNERS to all our workshops and courses unless otherwise stated.
Bernina sewing machines can be hired for class use at a cost of £5.00 a day. Firstf time hire is FREE.

Clubs at Quilters Haven SPRING 2012
Our clubs are times when sewers and knitters can get together and work on their own projects in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. A tutor is available for advice from 10 am - 12 pm or all evening. Club members meet from 9.30 am and often stay until closing time!

Learn to Sew

Do you want to learn to sew? Why not come and join us for fun classes to learn to use a sewing machine, follow patterns and learn basic sewing techniques. You will grow with confidence as you make several items that will impress your family and friends! These can be simple garments or some soft furnishings for your home. Some of the topics covered are:- getting the most from your machine, machine tension, inserting zips, neatening seams and understanding pattern directions.

Sew a Row Quilts

Starts Friday 3 February
This is for those who have completed a beginners course. You will continue to use the 'Sew a row' book
to expand your knowledge of technique. The rows of patchwork can then be used to make either a large tote bag
for your cutting board and rulers or a throw/single size quilt.
SPRING 2011 WORKSHOPS
*Trees FULL

Fee: £35.00 Saturday 4 February 10am - 4pm
Make an improvisational pieced background and applique trees in monochrome - suitable for a wall piece, as the centre of a larger quilt, or make a most delightful bag or cusion. Machine.
Machine Quilting

Pippa
Fee: £35.00 Saturday 11 February 10am - 4pm
Learn many tips on how to prepare for machine quilting. Then practice all day with free machine quilting on a sample quilted sandwich. Pippa will show you some of her gorgeous quilts that have won her prizes for quilting.
Children's Classes

Calling all kid’s aged 6-11! Bring along an adult to this enjoyable class to learn to sew. A project fabric kit is included in the fee.

Teens to Sew

Fee: £30.00 Thursday 16 February 10am - 4pm
Learn basic sewing skills while making a fashionable bag. Add optional embelishments.
Roman Blinds FULL
Ann Haughton
Fee: £45.00 Saturday 18 February 10am - 4pm
Places limited to 8 only. A kit is available. You choose your fabric for the blind.
You will learn to make a sample Roman Blind to professional standards without any tape.
The rod pockets are constructed from the lining fabric so that no machine sewing is seen from the front of the blind.
Invisible stab stitches are then used to enable the fabrics to rise and drop together.
Extend your Bernina Know-How
Annie
Fee: £30.00 Wednesday 22 February 10am - 4pm
Make a cushion cover using various threads, needles, feet, and attachments to utilize the embroidery stitches on your Bernina.
Learn to hem-stitch on your machine, this is very effective for table mats and runners.
A Charming Beginning - FULL new date offered

Fee: £30.00 Saturday 25 February 10am - 4pm
A new one day class for those who have never made a quilt. You will use a packet of 5" charm squares,
stitch together and then add borders for the quilt top. Then you will learn to layer with wadding and backing
before giving birth to the quilt. We will be surprised if this is not the first of many quilts!
You can bring your own machine or use one of ours, which must be booked in advance.
This session is full. This class is also offered Saturday 12 May.
*Hand Applique

A basic applique class which can be extended to help those who need further instruction on projects already begun in a previous class.
Start a design for a pillow, tablerunner, or bag.
*Block Carry Case

This case has been designed for taking your completed blocks to class or workshop,
and measures 15" square, not including handles. The block that you will make are Blackford's Beauty and Sunbeam. Machine.
*Introduction to Free Motion Quilting

Easy Celtic Knot Applique

Let Marion show you a simple way to stitch Celtic work by hand or machine.
Learn to make your own bias and explore designs from books and stencils. Hand or machine sewing
Japanese Open Fan

An adorable design, ideal for a block (maybe for Sampler quilts, cusion, or bag.
A bias tape is used to embellish a traditional fan. Machine or hand sewing.
*Turning 20

Marion Barnes
Fee: £45.00 Saturday 10 March 10am - 4pm
Join Marion for a 'Turning Twenty' class based on the book of the same name by Tricia Cribbs and create
a large quilt using only 20 fat quarters (or an optional throw size with 12 fat quarters,) this method creates
little or no waste and tehre are no seams to match up. This quilt top can be cut in a day, you will go home
almost ready to quilt. It looks great in any fabric combination, all the quarters can be random or coordinated,
it is up to you. The important thing is that they are all different. It's a great way to use up all those hard to resist
fat quarters you have stashed away just waiting for the right project.
*New Tricks for Foundation Piecing

*Picture Perfect

Figures, flowers and fine architectural designs can be brought to life with this reverse applique technique which helps you to achieve fine detail in fabric, thread and stitch. Please note that although full instruction will be given students MUST have some experience of free machien work to take full advantage of this workshop.
Get Hooked

Use your stash and left over fabrics to create fun and easy rugs. Or consider using our bargain 'retired fabrics', from £4.00/metre. Even if you have never held a crochet hook this is a really easy technique. Pattern required which contains a large crochet hook. and is offered at a 10% discount on the day
Easy All Machine Quilt Binding

Learn how to bind your quilt with no hand stitching. Several methods will be covered, giving you many options for easy beautifully bound quilts.
*Creating a Scene

In this workshop you will start to make a landscape or seascape using the techniques of foundation piecing, textured foundation piecing, quilting, applique, and embelishment. A pattern will be provided for either a seascape or a landscape that enables students to learn the necessary skills. These skills and techniques can then be used to make other and/or larger pictures. The project can be made with hand or hand and machine sewing, but the tutor suggests that you hand sew on the day.
*Crazy & Creative Patchwork

Since the V&A exhibition in 2010 there has been a resurgence in the interest in Crazy Patchwork, the Victorians used lots of lovely sumptuous silks and fabrics and here is has been brought bang up to date. It looks great made out of scraps but even better from co-ordinated fabrics and spectacular in Batik. You can incorporate old textiles, embroidered and lace edge napkins or tray cloths that have seen better days. Furnishing fabric is not suitable. The basic crazy patchwork can be worked by hand or machine, but the embroidery will be taught by hand.
*Bargello

Make a table runner by sewing strip sets and using a bargello quilt-as-you-go technique.
Optional - add fusible raw edge applique. Pattern required. machine sewing.
*New York Beauty

Create perfect points easily to give stunning results using foundation piecing. Design 4 blocks to make into a cushion front or table runner and discover how many different foundations can be used to produce great effects.
*Japanese Folded FULL

They are easy to sew a few at a time and when several pieces are stitched together they create a complete ready backed quilt.

Hand Quilting

Learn to hand quilt from an expert quilter who has won lots of awards for her beautiful quilts. You will learn the traditional rocking motion quilting and make a start on a simple quilted cushion. Tips will be given on thimbles, quilting thread and needles.
*Hand Stitchery

Pam
Fee: £18.00 Saturday 21 April 1.30 - 4.30pm
Stitchery is becoming very popular so why not give it a try.
You will learn how to transfer your design to fabric and the stitches needed to make
anything from a small quilt to a beautiful quilt label.
Pam will have some designs or bring your own to the class and she also recommends
this new book 'Stitched with Love'
*+Bags Galore

Jennie Rayment

Easy ways to create simple bags from shopping to hand, embellished to plain, Scrip to Sling and Origami to original – indeed all sorts of bags for many different occasions. Every student will make three basic bag techniques plus one or two more from a range of delectable designs
and patterns. A must for all bag-bods - t’is fast, fun and Oh sew simple!! Workshop starts with three easy techniques for constructing bags then students have a chance to choose which of the other bags they wish to make. Machine.
*Scrappy Zappy Do

Scrabble in your fabric stash and fish out oddments of material! A most escellent way to combine a series of coloured scraps or memorable materials into an attractive hanging, table runner, or small quilt.
*Embellished Landscape

Learn several different decorative textile methods, and make a textured landscape with the results. Skills taught will include fusing, faux-chenille, trash-bag quilting, foiling, and other techniques. Machine.
*Adele/Southern Bell Bag- Monkey Buttons


Amanda from Monkey Buttons
Fee: £35.00 Monday 30 April 10am - 4pm
Join Amanda in making the Adele Bag or the Southern Bell bag. The Adele bag was inspired by the singer and a Klimt painting, both by the name of Adele. The black bag has a foundation pieced from panel with a zip top and zip back pocket, and the simple blue bag has an open top and back pocket. The Southern Belle bag is a beautiful handbag with pieced flowers on the front pocket. The curved flap has appliqued flowers. A pattern for one of these bags is included in the class price.
*Seahorse/Cottage Garden Quilt- Monkey Buttons


Amanda from Monkey Buttons
Fee: £35.00 Tuesday 1 May 10am - 4pm
Join Amanda in making one of these wonderful quilts. Choose from "Seahorses" or "Cottage/Pansy Garden." The gorgeious seahorses have their tails entwined in a gentle embrace and are English paper pieced or bonded applique. The cottage garden quilt is made up fo lots of different flowers-- Hollyhock, Clematis, Floxglove, Pansy etc. It is easy bonded applique onto a simple pieced background. A pattern for one of these quilts is included in the class price.
