One day workshops are from 10am until 4pm unless otherwise stated. Bookings must be made in advance and accompanied by the full payment. A refund can only be given if 4 weeks notice of cancellation is received ( less £5 administration costs) *denotes new class. +denotes visiting tutor therefore no refund on cancellation. No Transfers can be made. We welcome BEGINNERS to all our workshops and courses unless otherwise stated.

Summer 2010 Teaching Calendar
*BUTTON BOX BAG or JULIA BAG
Amanda Hall Fee: £30 Wednesday 15 September 10-4pm
Price includes pattern. You have a choice of two patterns - Button bag or Julia bag. You will work on one bag during the class but will see others working on the second and more patterns will be available for sale.
1. Button Bag. Remember Grandma's big tin full of buttons that you used to love sorting through? Well why not get them out and stitch them onto this wonderful bag. Each square is stitched down with a lovely selection of machine stitches that you most likely have'nt used before. There is a large strip pieced pocket on the back.

2. Julia bag An interesting shaped handbag with a front pocket and flap closure. Choice of either a triangular pieced bag worked in a wide variety of closely graded colours or a simple un-pieced bag worked in two contrasting fabrics. Both have a gusset. The linings have been split with the contrast fabric to resemble a more traditional handbag finish.

*SNOWY PINES or WINTER SPLENDOUR

Price includes pattern. You have a choice of two patterns. You will work on one pattern during the class but will see others working on the second, and more patterns will be available for sale.
1. Snowy Pines. This beautiful tree skirt will grace any home this Christmas. Tall pine trees with reindeer on a snowy background are the main feature but there are also attractive corners with vines, ivy, holly berries and stars. All of the applique is bonded which can either be stitched or you can use a no-sew bonding material. To link each panel ther are strip pieced bands of co-ordinating colours. Finished size 43". This can be made as a Christmas skirt or a hanging.

2. Winter Splendour Table runner and placemats. Here is a stylish table runner that can be used all winter as well as Christmas or try an all over print for all year round. Bonded fir cones and stars with easy machine embroidered trees and strip pieced border add interesting elements to this simple project. Table mat instructions are also included.

*LAYER CAKE STARS
Teresa Wardlaw - Fee: £25 Thursday 30 September 10-4pm
Pre cut fabrics are available at Quilters Haven and make quilting life so much easier. Using the 10" squares that are available as 'Layer cakes' make quilt full of different size stars. The pieced stars are different sizes and have perfect points made in a really easy way. The layer cakes contain 40 different fabrics all from the same range so that they will look co-ordinated. This sample is made from a Bliss Layer cake.
*MERRY GO ROUND

An easy pieced star within a block. Choose a fabric theme or ideal for left over scraps of fabric. Make a project any size you want. Machine.
ROTARY CUTTING TIPS
Pam Bailey - Fee: FREE EVENT Saturday 2 October 2.30-3.00
Pam will be explaining rotary cutting equipment and the various tools that can be purchased. Tips will be given on how to get the best from this really useful equipment. 5% discount will be given on any rotary cutting equipment purchased by those attending this event.

FOUNDATION FUN
Karin Hellaby - Fee: £15 Friday 8 October 10.00-1.00
Stitching on a foundation gives an accurate finish to any patchwork. Karin will be showing you this technique from her Sew a Row book. She will be providing a simple flower block on water soluble paper for you to try out this technique and then advising you on the many uses of this method. Machine
MANIC MACHINE QUILTING
Pippa Moss - Fee: £30 Saturday 9 October 10-4
Come and learn all the basics you nee to machine quilt. You will be shown straight line quilting using a walking foot, but the emphasis will be on getting control of those free-hand machine curves. You will practice, practice, practice, but go home more confident to tackle those quilt tops.
HAND APPLIQUE - beginners

Try lots of different hand applique techniques. Start a design for a pillow, table runner or the front of a bag.
VERMICELLI QUILTING
Marion Barnes - Fee: £13 Monday Monday 11th October 1.30-4.30pm
A great introduction to free machine quilting! Marion has varioue patterns for you to try and then you practice, practice, practice! Machine.
SEW SIMPLE 3D ATTIC WINDOW - NO MITRES!
Karin Hellaby - Fee: £13 Monday 18 October 10-1
Try these wonderful techniques from Karin's latest book.! You will learn how to make no mitre Attic windows and Curved Attic window blocks. A great way to use Layer Cakes and Jelly Rolls or fabric from your stash. Book required. Machine recommended but can be done by hand.
CUSHION DAY

JELLY ROLL DAY - DENVER OMELETTE

This design is such fun and shows you how to make full use of pre-cut strips. The quilt has been much admired by our customers. All the fun of sewing without the teduim of multiple cutting. Make any size quilt, table runner or table mats from jelly rolls. You can also cut 21/2" strips from your fabric stash. Machine

Make this lovely bag using 2 fabrics for outer , plus 2 fabrics for trimmings, ie frill and handles
Machine or hand quilted. Make the large for shopping or the small for evening.

Calling all kids 6 - 11. Why not bring along an adult to help you with another great sewing class. You will receive a fabric kit and have a super project to take home.
BERNINA PLAYDAY
Ann Whatling - Fee: £25 Thursday 28 October 10-4
Calling all Bernina machine owners! It does not matter where the machine was purchased! Annie will be showing you how to use various feet attachments (Annie has collected 40 different machine feet) for your machine which are not included in your initial purchase. You then get the chance to attach them to your machine and play! Order any feet on the day to get a 10% discount.

Helen Howes - Fee: £30 Saturday 30 October 10.00-4.00
Using your rotary cutter, but not your ruler, you will explore gentle curves and freely-cut shapes to make a unique small quilt. Insets and insertions bring the surface into the third dimension, and the resulting surface can be embellished with stitch.
BEARS IN THE WOOD

Pam is a huge Eleanor Burns fan and this class uses the classic book by Eleanor Burns. Book required which will be discounted on the day. Combine Log Cabin, Trees with Flying Geese Patches for a beautiful new quilt! You can make any size quilt or if you wish for something smaller then consider making tablerunners or cushions. You can choose to make something from one block only or make a sample block in each technique. Machine.
CHRISTMAS ADVENT CALENDAR

This tiome you can make a lovely star desigh quilt in either a large size or small using charm squares (5") or layer cakes (10") to make this lovely quilt which can be completed in the workshop. Make a Double Wedding Ring Table Runner using a new method. Sew strips and apply by using a fusible vilene method.

*CHRISTMAS TABLE RUNNER

A new quick stars, squares and rectangles table runner to make for Christmas. It is an easy design which you should be able to finish the quilt top in the day. Machine. Photo soon
EASY REVERSE MACHINE APPLIQUE
Teresa Wardlaw - Fee: £25 Thursday 25 November 10-4
Let Teresa show you the technique with lots of tips and hints. Two layers of fabric are used. The top fabric is cut away to reveal the fabric beneath.
You can use a pattern or draw your own. This sample is from the Fast Flying Geese book by Karin Hellaby.
*MACHINE TRAPUNTO with a DIFFERENCE

The emphasis will be on taking the design source from ancient sculpture. You will learn how to turn sculpture into stitch with this intruiging technique.
FANDANGO BOX

Fold and twist up some fandangos ( permision given by Jennie Rayment) and then learn how Marion makes them into small boxes. Ideal as presents. Card will be provided by tutor cost £1.50
*QUILT AS YOU GO PINEAPPLE
Karin Hellaby - Fee: £25 Friday 26 November 10-4
For those who only like to quilt small items and yet want a quilt as large as you wish. The quilt as you go technique is ideal. You will work with fabric squares and triangles to make a quilt that looks so complicated but is really Sew Simple (once you know how!) We have a new range of flannel arriving and this workshop is ideal for a lovely cuddly, raggy seamed quilt.

BERNINA AURORA DAY

A free class for those who have purchased their Aurora sewing machine from Quilters Haven or Martin Woods. Please register for this class as numbers are limited to eight. A £25.00 deposit is required which will be refunded to you when you arrive for the class.

SAMPLER QUILT
Marion Barnes - Fee: £14 per session starts 4 October 2010
Mondays 9.30-12.30pm
This is the quilt that everyone wants to make! Marion will be teaching you lots of different patchwork, you make a block sample of each method and then it is made into a quilt using the quilt-as-you-go- technique. There are 14 sessions, usually alternate weeks until 4 April 2011. We have been teaching this quilt for 17 years at Quilters Haven and it is still as popular as ever!
LEARN TO SEW

Have you always wanted to learn to sew? Why not come and join us for fun evenings to learn to use a sewing machine, following patterns and learning basic sewing techniques. You will grow with confidence as you make several items that will impress your family and friends! These can be a simple garment or some soft furnishings for your home.
Some of the topics covered are:- getting the most from your machine, machine tension, inserting zips, neatening seams and understanding pattern directions.
BEGINNERS

Learn all the basic quilt making skills such as rotary cutting, machine piecing, hand applique, quilting basting and finishing a quilt. Add a sprinkle of humour and a large dash of companionship, to make a wall hanging and quilting friends for life! Book required.
CHRISTMAS WITH SALLY
Sally Holman - Fee: £25 per session 15 October, 12 November, 3 December
Fridays 11-4.00pm
Sally is an expert at making the most attractive Christmas fabric decorations, from wallhangings to tablemats, to ornaments.
SALLY' S SAMPLER QUILT
Sally Holman - Fee: £30 per session 16 October, 13 November, 4 December, 15 January, 12 Febuary, ? March
Saturdays 9.30-4.00pm
An exciting new course for those who work duing the week. There will be six sessions, a Saturday once a month until September, excluding August. You should have some experience of either a beginners class or a workshop.
The quilt will have a unique setting composed of three different block sizes with some rectangular blocks and strips. The quilt can be made up and quilted in small sections and/or strips.
Numerous techniques will be covered including:- Piecing, Foundation, folded, applique, curved and quilting. There will be 20 blocks to make to cover the various techniques. Photo to follow.
JOIN OUR FRIENDLY CLUBS AT QUILTERS HAVEN Summer 2010
During the summer term May to August we do not charge an enrolment fee for the daytime clubs. Instead you can book in advance and the fee is £10.00 per session. You can attend both Wednesday and Tuesday clubs for one or all sessions. This will give you greater flexibility with holiday dates.
